Itinerary

Day 01 ► Asunción

Reception at the airport and transfer to selected hotel.

Asunción: 2 night accommodation with breakfast and taxes.

 

Day 02 ► Asunción

Asunción City Tour

This day we will have a half day City Tour in Asunción.
Discover Asunción “Mother of Cities”; visiting the National Pantheon of the Heroes, the House of Independence and its museum, the Central Post Office, the Cathedral Metropolitan, the old Cabildo, The Government Palace, the new headquarters of the Congress, old railway station with one of the First locomotives to steam from South America, the Port, the Recova (typical handicraft market).

Apart from the commercial and historical center, we will move to beautiful residential neighborhoods as well as to modest housing groups. Massive trade markets that contrast with large and modern shopping malls will be seen along the way.  

 

Day 03 ► Asunción – Encarnación

Early Pick up at Asuncion Hotel (7am) and set off with destination to San Bernardino, the city by Ypacarai Lake, San Bernardino: Is the summer city par excellence Capiatá: Its parish church is a jewel of the baroque art of the Franciscans. The hand carved altar was recently restored.

Next stop Caacupe, visiting the Church and the “Well of the Virgin” were you will be able to refresh with Blessed Water and admire the first church replica. Also on the way …..Yaguaron
One of the first Franciscan villages of converted Indians in Paraguay and the River Plate. Church San Buenaventura. This church is a beautiful architectonic work built of Lapacho wood. It has been decorated with retable of carved wood covered with thin gold plates. Fray Alonso de Buenaventura started the building in 1640 and it was finished 1775 with the construction of a principal altar made by the Portuguese master Juan de Souza Cavadas. The dyes were prepared by the Indians using local plants and are still shining brilliantly on the surface of the wood carved images. The altar is particularly beautiful.

Day 04 ► Encarnación – La Trinidad Ruins

Encarnación in a time also constituted a Jesuitic mission. In this stroll you will be able to learn about its rich History, visiting the Cathedral, the Place of Arms, the City Hall, the riverside avenue, the old station of the railroad, the San Roque González de Santa Cruz International bridge that communicates Encarnacion with Posadas (Argentina).
Leaving the city towards the Jesuits Reduction of La Trinidad.
These ruins were appointed as “Cultural Patrimony of Mankind” and are the expression of the evangelizing work of the Jesuits. The Jesuit Museum offers carved stones and retables; and the Licit Museum offers licit material of the archeological research at the old Jesuit settlement. You may also visit the “Picada Boca”, which is the quarry from where the stones used to build the ruins, were extracted.
Transfer back to Encarnación.

Day 05 ► Encarnación – San Cosme and Damian Ruins

Today you are going to visit one important Jesuitic Mission, San Cosme and Damian,one of the main cultural patrimonies, as it was the first Astronomic Observatory of Suramèrica during the colonial time, where Jesuits with the help of Native people built telescopes, quadrants , and even nowadays the sun clock amazes people due to its precision. Its church recently reopened with precious images of the saints.
This is the only standing ruin of 2 stories with its ceiling.

Check out 11.00 am
Transfer to bus station to return to Asunción.

Day 06 ► Encarnación – “Discover Yerba Mate” – Iguazu

Today you are leaving Encarnacion and will be driven to Puerto Iguazu (330km away) where you will visit Iguazu Falls. But before arriving these Natural Wonders, you have to discover another wonder not as well known but also amazing…….

Yerba Mate is deeply rooted in the Paraguayan, Uruguayan and Argentinean life, not only for its importance in the regional productive economy, but also for its history.
Travelers are invited to visit artisanal, ecological and industrial establishments, that show the entire production process: from yerba mate’s large plantations, going through harvest, drying and milling to the product’s final packing. Visitors may taste different mate infusions: traditional, organic, just-leaves, among others, while discovering their energizing properties and learning about the aspects of “mate’s ceremony”, that important part of local people’s everyday life.

Further transfer to Puerto Iguazu Hotel.

Day 07 ► Puerto Iguazu – Argentinean Waterfalls

Full day excursion to Argentinean Waterfalls

Declared “World Natural Patrimony of the Humanity” by the UNESCO, the Iguazú Falls are a sublime spectacle. They are located within a wild uncultivated setting surrounded by subtropical vegetation. Its 275 falls, some of them with more than 70 metres of height, make up a world of cascades that fall with such a strength that give birth to clouds of little atomized drops, in which the sun light decomposes in spectacular rainbows.

Among the main falls we can mention the Mitre, Belgrano, Rivadavia, Three Musketeers, San Martín,
Bozzetti, Two Sisters and the famous Devil’s Throat, one of the most impressive falls due to its size and scenographic effect.
The Iguazú National Park, which lodges the famous falls, contains more than 400 species of birds, around 2 000 vegetal species and an immeasurable world of insects making of this bioma one of the richest natural environments of the country.

”Inferior” walk: this walk makes the waterfalls sight possible. You can have panoramic sights from the “Garganta del Diablo” and from Brazilian waterfalls; and you can have a wonderful approach to the Bossetti waterfalls. This walk takes two hours and has staircases similar to an eight-storey building.
“Superior Walk”: the high footbridges will take you to the fallen line of different rainfalls. This walk takes an hour. It has not staircases, it does not require a big physical effort.
”Garganta del Diablo” (Devil’s Throat): you can get there by the “Cataratas” train, which you must take at the “Garganta del Diablo” Station. There visitors must walk up to big balconies. There you can see the front and the border of the rainfalls. This walk takes nearly two hours and there are not staircases. The last train leaves at 16:30

OPTIONAL: Great Adventure

It is an 8 kilometers circuit through the jungle in a 4×4 truck, plus a 6 kilometers motor boat on the Iguazú river rapids, which includes a closing to the Devil’s Throat and San Martin falls.
Duration: 1 hour aprox.

 Please inform your clients that this is a “soaking” experience. It is advisable to bring a change of clothes or enjoy this activity in bathing clothes

  

Day 08 ► Puerto Iguazu – Brazilian Waterfalls

Half day excursion to Brazilian Waterfalls

The Iguaçu National Park is at 25 kilometers from Foz do Iguaçu city.
It has a 1 kilometer long walkway from which the 275 falls can be seen from a front panoramic view.
Since the majority of the falls are in the Argentinean side, Brazil offers the best panoramic views: general panoramic view, side view of Devil’s Throat, and front view of the four Brazilian falls.
Duration: 4 hours aprox.
